Historically Marble was used for two purposes: sculptures and construction of buildings. One of the best known sights is the Greek Parthenon in Athens. Greece is considered to be the birthplace of Marble. The word Marble comes from the ancient Greek “Marmaron” and means shining rock.
The construction of the Parthenon was completed 432 BC and made of Dionysos/Pentelicon marble, one of our favourites and one that we offer at Ivy Space:
Another famous building is the Taj Mahal that is built with high quality white Marble, translucent with yellow veins. We have a few similar available, please feel free to contact us.
It is also worth mentioning probably the most important work of the last 50 years in the marble sector worldwide that took place in Abu Dhabi with SIVEC extra material.
How has Marble evolved over the years?
Marble has evolved so much over the years, nowadays considered a luxurious item, synonymous with prestige. It is used in homes in various areas like bathrooms, kitchen worktops, furniture and floors.
It comes in different colours and variations. We could also compare in a way Marble to a Diamond. Both are made from carbon and come from rocks underneath the earth. Both are high end products. Also, like diamonds, each block of marble is unique and has many specifications as it comes in different qualities.
We are very proud of our Greek heritage and having the opportunity to continue three generations of family business. Our key values are honesty and ethos, finding only the top quality materials for best value for money. We source the products directly from our partner manufacturers/quarries, cutting out the middlemen, operating a direct to consumer model.
