When taking on any tiling project it’s important to first calculate how many tiles you’re going to need to complete the job. Whether it’s for walls or floors, large or small spaces, there is an IvySpace quick and easy way to determine the cost and help you stay within your budget.
With regards to the Floors, the first thing you need to do is split the room in squares or rectangles so it is easier to calculate. Multiply the width with length to come up with m2.
You need to do the same for the walls, measure up the height. Be careful whether you will install tiles on the skirting or not.
Then from your calculations you need to :
a)deduct windows/doors, again in the same fashion multiply width by length
b)add extra wastage: most providers suggest 10-15%. In our point of view this is dependent on the size of tiles.
-If you are going for tiles up to 60x60cm adding 10% wastage is absolutely fine.
- But if you are looking for tiles 60x120cm or higher, we strongly advise to measure up tile by tile in your desired area, in this case do not follow the m2 calculation described above. If you want to follow the m2 calculation, from experience this could be 15% or so.
IvySpace supplies Tiles in boxes, so each box has a certain number of tiles or m2. For instance, if the room is 120 square meters and each box has 10 square meters of tiles inside, then you’ll need 12 boxes. As a reference, tiles with large dimensions of 600x1200mm will have one or two tiles per box. The smaller the tiles dimensions the more tiles per box (for example, 600x600mm tiles typically have 4 tiles per box). Our product listing pages specify how many tiles are packed in each box, simply click on the product and select the finish and/or dimensions you require.
