Mosaics have a long history, starting in Mesopotamia in the 3rd Millennium BC. Pebble mosaics were made in Tiryns in Mycenaean Greece; mosaics with patterns and pictures became widespread in classical times, both in Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. Early Christian basilicas from the 4th century onwards were decorated with wall and ceiling mosaics. Mosaic art flourished in the Byzantine Empire from the 6th to the 15th centuries; this tradition was then adopted by the Norman Kingdom of Sicily in the 12th century, by the eastern-influenced Republic of Venice, and among the Rus in Ukraine.
In recent times, Mosaics have been increasing in popularity due to their ability to create feature walls or floors in different parts of a property.
But why are they so expensive? Primarily it is due to their cost and complexity to produce. That is one of the main reasons clients use them predominantly for feature walls alone.
IvySpace is making high quality mosaics accessible to the wider public by cutting out the middlemen and offering them directly to consumers.
Our most popular ranges are the Hexagon, Herringbone and Diamond collections.
We do NOT import from China, India or Turkey. Everything is produced either in Italy or Greece.
